During the manufacturing of BedXcel the dust is removed from the product and deposited into dust filters; the dust free product is then baled into 20kg bags. As BedXcel is a cardboard based bedding product, it produces negligible quantities of its own dust while being handled. During the development of BedXcel we were very aware that dust particles could cause major respiratory problems e.g. chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
To effectively manage COPD leading vets have stressed the need for a minimum – dust environment for horses and unless these conditions are maintained symptoms continue to show. There are many aeroallergen’s, such as Aspergillus fumigatus, Faenia rectivirgula and Thermoactinomyces vulgaris, present in other bedding products, for example straw and shavings. BedXcel as a cardboard based product has significantly reduced air bourne dust levels and concentrations of common aeroallergen’s.
